I believe that new experiences are such a simple way to give us a confidence and happiness boost. They allow us to discover and remember different sides of ourselves that get lost in everyday life.
I am a passionate believer in the power of adventure.
But that’s not just doing the big brave stuff like snowboarding or climbing a mountain, that’s also learning guitar, trying to get better at drawing, Peak District hikes or cooking interesting food.
Adventure and getting out of your comfort zone can look like a lot of things. And I believe it’s incredibly good for your mental health, helps you think more clearly and it’s just so much fun.
The business is mainly run by me, Katya, but I do draft in my boyfriend Jamie to help out with events and catering. And I love working with other collaborators too, who bring new energy and skills to my events.
My story
I spent over ten years working at the BBC as a personal assistant, but got the itch to go self employed in 2016.
Social media was my speciality for 7 years (I was an Instagram Coach for 5 of those years), but in the background the idea for microadventures was bubbling away in my mind. I knew all my best ideas and experiences happened when I was outside with friends. Could I somehow turn that into a business? Finally in 2023, I made the leap and started Katya’s Microadventures.
I LOVE trying new things even if I’m rubbish at them! Whether that’s surfing or screen printing, I’ll give it a go. I want other people to get the same buzz that I get from immersing myself in a new experience. I love being the cheerleader to help people do just that.
Meet Jamie
Jamie is Katya’s partner. After 20 plus years of working in food safety & health and safety for enforcement authorities and Morrisons Supermarkets, Jamie decided in late 2022 to strike out and completely change direction to pursue a more balanced and joyful career.
He is now a paddleboard instructor in the Peak District and also works snowside at the indoor ski slope in Manchester.
Jamie helps Katya out on events when it’s needed, whether that’s catering (he bakes amazing cakes), risk assessments or general organising and pouring cups of tea.
Jamie’s health & safety expertise is a real bonus. He actually enjoys writing risk assessments and enjoys making sure that all events are super safe.
